Where are we as a people and have we progressed since the ending of the Black Power movement or have we regressed to our pre reconstruction period status? I choose the latter. The way moving now as a people and culture it is to oblivion. We are following ( everyone is guilty to a degree) our leaders Rappers, athletes, and icons back to slavery. It is appalling and frightnening that when any one tries to wake the black state out of its comatose state of Cars, Sex and Money we go into riot mode. But when someone says they dont want us drinking their drink we just follow Jay-Z and switch to another brand who hates us but knows better than to say it publicly. We need to wake up and soon.

Im not a huge football fan. My geography wont allow it I guess basketball, boxing and baseball struck me as better things to watch on tv. But last night I actually watched the Saints vs. the Falcons game and I was actually drawn in because I wanted to watch the celebration after the Saints won because it was about time they won something in a City where they thought it would be ultimatley uninhabitable again (which i think still is) but it was great to see them smile for once and I hope the team continues to succeed and be a bright spot in there struggle to regain normalcy.

Mental Slavery

Despite how educated some of us claim we are (I included) we sometimes fall victim to the lavish lifestyle that is portrayed in the media and music,even if we have not accomplished anything that entitles us to have anything that way of life offer we fall into the trap more times than other and beilieve that we deserve these things sometimes even when we dont have the money to back it up at the time. I more than always try to keep up with sneakers and the newest t shirts and what have you but I realized that for a rising college senior with no steady income and no rich father to help feed this material lust it has become a very dangerous obsession and led me towards future financial destruction. Yes I know this sounds a little to much but I've seen it happen to many bright friends of mine who are older and lived the party lifestyle, go to all the best events and are always fly. But now they are in situations where they have no monetary means to get out and are falling by the wayside. I mean the moral of the story which is a hard one to swallow especially for me is we must break these mental chains which is the lust to keep up with the latest trends especially if your money cant. But really the personal lesson I gained is Fly is a state of mind and to really be fly you have to be bummy for a little bit, not all the time but you cant be fly when your poor or you'll end up like alot of these fly people on public assistance. NO disrespect to those who are on it but you can't have both and that is what I'm struggling to accept right now. Oh yea thanks mom I know im an asshole sometimes.

Im very happy today. Yo I got a question almost a serious as cancer. Why are black people infatuated with crime and the underworld. When I was a I younger also was drawn to the allure of John Gotti and stories of AZ, Rich , Supreme and the list goes on. But as I got older which really isn't that old I wondered why was I so fascinated with these exploits of these men who defied the law and got money. I guess because I was from the suburbs and did not have to deal with things that these dudes went up against everyday that made me envy and to a point try to emulate them. But at the end of all of those stories we get the sobering reality which is at the end of the day they get locked up or are underground. And that is why all we have left is stories.

Now that we got all the introductions out the way. Lets get into the question of the day and that is how much longer will this current infatuation with late 80's and early 90's fashion will last. I admit I am a fan of this time period for one because i was born in 85 but I think this was possibly the peak of creativity in hip-hop culture in regards of fashion, rap music and deejaying. I also admit to jumping into this trend of the youth tyring to find their own identity and leaving baggy jeans alone and picking up fitted ones and wearing clothes that fit. This trend includes colorful hats "Fresh Prince of Ny hats" and other items we've only seen our parents have on in the photo album or on throwback thursday on Rap Sh**ty (City). But now in my search for sanity I realize despite how we dress or the old school cd's we play or put on our myspace pages we all look like biters and never will bring back that essence of that time period.
