I dont like to preach. But I do want to get on the proverbial soap box for a second. I just want to question black consciousness right now. Where are we as a people and have we progressed since the ending of the Black Power movement or have we regressed to our pre reconstruction period status? I choose the latter. The way moving now as a people and culture it is to oblivion. We are following ( everyone is guilty to a degree) our leaders Rappers, athletes, and icons back to slavery. It is appalling and frightnening that when any one tries to wake the black state out of its comatose state of Cars, Sex and Money we go into riot mode. But when someone says they dont want us drinking their drink we just follow Jay-Z and switch to another brand who hates us but knows better than to say it publicly. We need to wake up and soon.
But continuing with this theme check out this new artist NYOIL and his video which helped inspire this post

Are Black People evil ?
hmmm, thats the question at hand now isnt it. Lets see everything named "Black..." has to be bad right ? because we all know about "black friday" , "blackmail" etc. If you were to open up a dictionary and look up the word "Black" the first few definitions would be "black /blæk/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[blak] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation adjective, -er, -est, noun, verb, adverb
|1.||lacking hue and brightness; absorbing light without reflecting any of the rays composing it.|
|2.||characterized by absence of light; enveloped in darkness: a black night.|
|3.||(sometimes initial capital letter) |
|4.||soiled or stained with dirt: That shirt was black within an hour.|
|5.||gloomy; pessimistic; dismal: a black outlook.|
|6.||deliberately; harmful; inexcusable: a black lie.|
|7.||boding ill; sullen or hostile; threatening: black words; black looks.|

Im not a huge football fan. My geography wont allow it I guess basketball, boxing and baseball struck me as better things to watch on tv. But last night I actually watched the Saints vs. the Falcons game and I was actually drawn in because I wanted to watch the celebration after the Saints won because it was about time they won something in a City where they thought it would be ultimatley uninhabitable again (which i think still is) but it was great to see them smile for once and I hope the team continues to succeed and be a bright spot in there struggle to regain normalcy.

Despite how educated some of us claim we are (I included) we sometimes fall victim to the lavish lifestyle that is portrayed in the media and music,even if we have not accomplished anything that entitles us to have anything that way of life offer we fall into the trap more times than other and beilieve that we deserve these things sometimes even when we dont have the money to back it up at the time. I more than always try to keep up with sneakers and the newest t shirts and what have you but I realized that for a rising college senior with no steady income and no rich father to help feed this material lust it has become a very dangerous obsession and led me towards future financial destruction. Yes I know this sounds a little to much but I've seen it happen to many bright friends of mine who are older and lived the party lifestyle, go to all the best events and are always fly. But now they are in situations where they have no monetary means to get out and are falling by the wayside. I mean the moral of the story which is a hard one to swallow especially for me is we must break these mental chains which is the lust to keep up with the latest trends especially if your money cant. But really the personal lesson I gained is Fly is a state of mind and to really be fly you have to be bummy for a little bit, not all the time but you cant be fly when your poor or you'll end up like alot of these fly people on public assistance. NO disrespect to those who are on it but you can't have both and that is what I'm struggling to accept right now. Oh yea thanks mom I know im an asshole sometimes.

Where are all the real lyricist at? Im getting tired of this question and everytime I hear it I remember this mental image I had of Queensbridge that I probrably imagined after listeing to the Infamous or the first time I actually listend to Illmatic. I loved those days and now they seem to be gone and never coming back. So until someone can revive these towers I will just sit and listen 2 Memory lane and Drink the Pain away. 1

Im very happy today. First off I was released from Nextel's clutches and I just heard that D.C. my second city minus the go-go is going 2 get real Soho-ish if that is really a word.But Cmonwealth one of the illest boutiques on the east coast prolly even country is opening up a D.C. branch and I heard there is another store called Major opening up in Georgetown. Best thing about this store major is there account which is from what I hear is supposed to be retarded (in other words) real good. But luckily its about an hour from my school so i have an excuse not to go. Because I will be in serious debt if it was closer. Oh yea big shout out to New jersey Turnpike authority for the help last night on the Goethals could have been worse. Peace

Its Monday I have a hangover and I have to clean my sneakers so I can be happy again. On another note These jordans have popped up on my radar. I was never a big Jordan head because everyone claimed 2 be one or I never had enough money to keep up with that trend. But these Jordan 5 Grapes will be copped when they are released. Oh yeah Don Juan and JuJu and those other clowns were at the club last night and pretty much ruined a good party but whatever my kicks are clean.

This is the type of things I'm missing out on
Yo no disrespect to the few cool people I know in Maryland but why the f***k cant yall get any hot clothes or kicks out here. There are a few spots with alright sneaks but never any hyperstrikes or sb exlcusives. There is def nowhere you can get any tees.
I guess this is the cost of trying to make that big money out of school(yea right)
This is the type of things I'm missing out on
This post right chea is dedicated to possibly, no thee best rap song in history.The song appeared on Raekwon of Wu-tang fame debut album.The song in all its aural glory was assisted by Ghostface Killah his right hand and their good friend Nasir Nasty Nas Jones. Im a bigger Raekwon fan than of Nas but the way Nas came on the track with his ridic flow and ill delivery had me at hello and after listening to it again I am in love again.Not to discount Ghost and Rae but Nas stole the show and these guys are also great lyricist as well so if you want to beef up your rap library I suggest you put down the D4L and pick up Cuban Linx.

Some artist have it some dont. These 5 (1 honorable mention) emcees painted vivid enough pictures that we can actually see verses in Hi Def.
1.Slick Rick-Fathered the genre and influenced countless rappers with his swagger and delivery.
2.Nas-His way of telling stories from diferent perspectives One love,I Gave you Power and Black girl lost are legendary.
3.Notorious B.I.G-Versace Swagger and vivid lyrics = genius
4.Andre 3000-Listen to the Love Below
5.Raekwon-Not only a beast in the kitchen but on tracks see Cuban Linx and Lex Diamond Story.
Lupe Fiasco-One of the future standard bearers of this lyrical tradition.

Yo I got a question almost a serious as cancer. Why are black people infatuated with crime and the underworld. When I was a I younger also was drawn to the allure of John Gotti and stories of AZ, Rich , Supreme and the list goes on. But as I got older which really isn't that old I wondered why was I so fascinated with these exploits of these men who defied the law and got money. I guess because I was from the suburbs and did not have to deal with things that these dudes went up against everyday that made me envy and to a point try to emulate them. But at the end of all of those stories we get the sobering reality which is at the end of the day they get locked up or are underground. And that is why all we have left is stories.On a Lighter note

Now that we got all the introductions out the way. Lets get into the question of the day and that is how much longer will this current infatuation with late 80's and early 90's fashion will last. I admit I am a fan of this time period for one because i was born in 85 but I think this was possibly the peak of creativity in hip-hop culture in regards of fashion, rap music and deejaying. I also admit to jumping into this trend of the youth tyring to find their own identity and leaving baggy jeans alone and picking up fitted ones and wearing clothes that fit. This trend includes colorful hats "Fresh Prince of Ny hats" and other items we've only seen our parents have on in the photo album or on throwback thursday on Rap Sh**ty (City). But now in my search for sanity I realize despite how we dress or the old school cd's we play or put on our myspace pages we all look like biters and never will bring back that essence of that time period.
sorry curtains i had to bum this pic to prove a point
I am a young man from New York City who is currently attending college in Maryland. Whose loves rank in this order: God, family, sex, sneakers,music and sports. Maybe this explains my appearent insanity of me and those close to me. Humans are essentially complex human beings and being in college,addicted to pornography, and sneakers leaves me know room for reflection. So i created this blog in order to reach out to those with with the same fascination for the things I love, fear and hope for
